Women Trusting Women in Business Vs. Personal Lives

If you are like me, you long to watch women in society continue to grow and thrive in business. Breaking the glass ceiling is not an outdated topic, even though we as women have become a great deal more resourceful in our efforts through the years to bust out the barriers in our various cultures.

One of the many ways that we have accomplished our task of rising through the ranks in society is by starting our own businesses. What has been proven is that while there are some “Good Ol’ Boys” clubs that will seemingly never bend entirely to our will of equal rights and inclusion, we have found loopholes and workarounds.

Women have learned to be resourceful on many levels throughout the years in business, as we have utilized the methods that enable us in our home lives to manage households, raise children, contribute to the family income and maintain our romantic relationships simultaneously.

An increasing number of women through the years have become the primary breadwinner in the family, however, that does not necessarily mean that we are receiving all of the privileges of men in the business world.

While many men have been unwilling to yield to their old, traditional inclinations to keep awarding the largest percentage of executive positions to males, they have not often considered when purchasing goods and/or services, whether or not they were purchasing these by male-owned or female-owned companies.

Through this workaround, we as women have successfully begun to increase the opportunities at all levels for women in the workplace. We have professional women’s organizations dedicated to helping one another succeed in business. We also now have networking groups wherein we help other mothers to grow in their businesses as we have and continue to do as a back and forth means of increasing the opportunities for women.

More often than not, we as women have compassion for the mothers who truly work their fingers to the bone in the effort of supporting their family and achieving that which their mothers and grandmothers before them could not because of the structure of society’s traditions.

This has enabled our remarkable performance in the working world, but how are we in our personal lives when it comes to trusting other women?

What is ironic is the very thing, which still often holds us back from reaching a new level of equality with men in society on a personal level and with regard to the attitudes of our culture.

Because of various unfortunate experiences in our lives and due to many different types of sensitivity clashes, we as women are often very reticent in trusting other women in our personal lives.

Especially those of us who are dominating the working world and are thrilled to help other female business owners, often find ourselves with more male friends and avoiding our feminine connections.

The media-induced competition to be the prettiest and the best still thrives unhealthily among women. This will continue for as long as we cannot quite get over that hump of jealousy and the backstabbing that results from the insecurities. These insecurities are often deeply ingrained because of both our familial training and our society, which is still run by the men who love to degrade and objectify women.

While we have broken the mold in many ways and arenas, there is still a dominating culture of the objectification of women and our allowance of this behavior in men has only encouraged our further insecurities, which have in turn kept the jealous and competitive atmosphere going strong for women in their personal lives.

We must applaud ourselves for the growth that we have accomplished, meanwhile not allow ourselves to become so comfortable in our successes that we fail to realize that more growth is possible and desperately needed.

When we can learn to heal and trust from the inside out, our relationships with other women can become more fulfilling. Our abilities to achieve within the man’s world and the male-run companies even will increase ten-fold.

If we continue to work on developing partnerships with one another both in and out of the professional realm, we will eventually turn that glass ceiling to dust and achieve a level of equality that will earn us the respect we deserve in society as the ingenuitive and resourceful force that we are capable of becoming.
